Saffron biscuit cake

This is such a delicious and heavenly light saffron biscuit cake. Yes saffron! Perfect for summer days which you want to spend outside on your balcony sipping on freshly cooled ginger-lemon-mint lemonade (ah, I should post that recipe soon) or rhubarb juice (and this one, too!). Life has been treating me so good. I finally switched jobs, arrived at a new employer with great values and a caring attitude towards the employees, so much foresight. This should be the usual way, shouldn’t it? But let me tell you, it is not. So I am such a lucky one. The only drawback is the 2 hours commute everyday, which I thankfully do it and get used to. This means less time for baking, but you see: I managed to whip up this delicious cake. But only because it is so simple to make.

Apple biscuit cake
print this yum!

Life is complicated right now. Thus, I am listing 5 good things here to motivate positivism:

  1. Valeria made marquesa de chocolate, (a recipe from Venezuela which is similar to the German Kalter Hund) and sent me a beautiful picture. Now it is my turn to try a German version of this recipe. We will post both versions here once I managed to make it. Thank you so much for this challenge Valeria.
  2. I am glad I found purplefoodie. I visit her blog and just awe at all the goodness there. And I am glad she likes it here, too.
  3. Nearly all my best friends were here this weekend and spent a lovely time with me. Nothing beats that, especially during complicated times.
  4. December 3 will be a date that marks changes to come. Good ones.
  5. This recipe is dead easy and its taste just fits perfectly to those times where falls turns into winter.

What are the first 5 good things that come to your mind right now?

cupavci – or Lamingtons?

print this yum!

I experienced these one day about a month ago – unexpectedly -  at a barbecue. They caught my eye right away. But first barbecue, I thought. Wrong decision. Once I tried them, I didn’t want to stop. This is what is goint to happen to you: you see those squares, you pick them up. They feel quite heavy. But once you have your first bite, you will be surprised how soft and juicy they are. It is incredible. And then they lure you into taking another one, and one more [...]

This is apparently a Croatian recipe – cupavci meaning coconut squares . Try them, they are worth the effort!

correction: Melrose just pointed out that cupavci actually means wuscheln (~to tousle) in Germany, and that definitely does not mean coconut square, thanks Melrose. She also traced the origins back to Australia. What an interesting travel they made!
